I received The many Lives of Ruby Iyer by Laxmi Hariharan from the author herself. The story of the book revolves Ruby Iyer, a girl born and brought up in the posh locality of South Bombay. Now she works as an intern in the social media marketing sector and stays in Bandra. Pankaj Verma, Panky, is her flat mate, her best friend and she can go to any length to protect him.
She uses the Bombay local to travel to and from work. One day, she is thrown off the platform in the way of a live wire and develops a lightning tree on her back which lightens up whenever she gets excited.
There is the beggar who sits outside her house, the Hand who is there everywhere making her do crazy things and Dr Braganza, the evil lay. There is someone who sends her anonymous messages on her phone. There is Vikram, a special cop, who is there when she needs him.
Read the book to find out more because if I mention anything more, it will spoil the suspense.
The book is a fast paced thriller. It was difficult for me to keep the book down because all I wanted to know in the book is “What happens next….” The story is fast paced and the Ruby is very real. And the end was very different from what I had expected. I must say that the lightning tree excited me also.
