Rescued by love is Shilpa Suraj’s second book for Harlequin India and the author can taste the thrills of mystery and romance both in this one. It is the story of the rescued and the rescuer and the close proximities that bring them closer only to move apart.
He rescued her, only to become her hostage!
When Naina Ahuja is kidnapped as hostage days before her father, a Supreme Court Chief Justice, must sentence a terrorist, the stakes are very high. Lt Col Arjun Rathore and his team are the only ones who can be trusted with the mission of saving her.
During their arduous trek back through the hostile terrain of Ladakh, Arjun and Naina spend days in danger of losing their lives – and their hearts.
Back in safety, the real world and its very real problems threaten – as do their own perceptions of the differences between them.
They must separate – but will life rescue their love?
Chief Justice Ahuja decides that his only child, Naina, would get married to ‘Fatty’ as it would boost the Chief Justice’s political career. Naina feels ‘Fatty’ is not the one for her and runs away from home and goes trekking to Leh. She is kidnapped by militants because they feel that this is the only way her father would not give a harsh sentence to their accomplice. But, Naina knows that her father is a man of principles and Naina is a living reminder of his failure to have an heir. He has to save his honour and show the world that he cares for his daughter, it would improve his political image, so the army is roped in. Lt Col Arjun Rathore and his team is on the mission to rescue Naina and bring her back to safety and they do so admirably, the outcome being Naina falling hard for Arjun and he turns away because she is engaged and he cannot give her all the luxuries that she is used to.
After being brought home, Naina realizes that her father is right about her not doing anything in life and rebels against marriage to ‘Fatty’, is disowned by her father and runs away from home. She goes to her best friend, Priya and starts working as a hostess at her husband, Ethan’s restaurant. One day, she is involved in organizing an engagement party and come face to face with the groom, who is none other than Arjun Rathore.
Naina is shocked. Arjun does not know what to do. He cannot break the engagement because that would make his family unhappy and is attracted to Naina at the same time.
A very well written and fast paced story. The characters are realistic and the scenes have been well described. My favourite character is Aryan, Arjun’s brother, who is understanding and does not feel scared to let Naina and Arjun know what he feels. Ethan’s protective side was something which the author has portrayed as being the right thing to do. There are certain situations in the book when I could not help myself from laughing out loud.
A good job done, Shilpa.
