Rapid Fall by Adiana Ray

Rapid Fall by Adiana Ray is the love story of JD and Sonia set in Rishikesh and Mumbai. I received the book as a review copy from Indireads. Thank you, Naheed for the book.

The Blurb:rapid-fall

Sonia and JD’s tempestuous attraction is as stormy as the rapids at Rishikesh. Not even a dip in icy waters can douse the sparks that fly when they are around each other.

JD’s recent divorce, however, has left him commitment phobic and bitter, and he doesn’t seem to want more than a physical relationship. At heart, Sonia is conservative; can she bring herself to accept a modern ‘live-in’ relationship, or will she push him away with her demands for a commitment?

The story:

Jaiprakash Dwivedi, JD is the Managing Director, Phoenix Media and Creativity Group, a company that he set up fifteen years ago with his friend, Monica. A workaholic, his work was his passion and when an idea struck he had to act on it immediately, something his wife did not understand and divorced him and also she didn’t want him to meet their daughter, whereas he had always tried to be a good father.

Sonia Mehta, from Indore, works in the HR department at Rittam Exports and has been asked by her boss to organize some affordable team building activities. She talks to her friend, Reena, and finalizes a white water rafting trip to Rishikesh because it fits within the budget. Naveen, a CA in her company is interested in her but she keeps her distance.

JD had always loved trekking and he goes river rafting in Rishikesh when he and his friend cum guide, Rakesh, meet with an accident and he has to fill in for Rakesh, who had broken his leg, for the team from Rittam Exports. As soon as they land, Sonia finds that the guide is late and they hit off the wrong way. The team leaves after a near accident and a brooding JD also goes back to Mumbai, making it difficult for his office people, till they manage an assignment with Rittam Exports.

My take:

A light, nice and fast paced book.  The characters have been described well. I loved the detailed description of the scenic beauty of Rishikesh and the falls. JD and Monica’s relationship is beautiful. Good work, Adiana.
