The guy from the wrong side of the tracks…
Being promoted should be a dream come true, only it means working closely with Cleo’s childhood crush, Jax Monroe. Jax may no longer be the rebel she remembers, but he still gets her heart racing like no other.
Jax cares too much about Cleo to let her get too close—but keeping his distance is proving impossible! As Jax reveals the extent of what he’s been through, will Cleo show him that some things are too precious to put off until tomorrow?
Cleo Sinclair, having grown up on a ranch in Hope Country, Wyoming, in a family of ranchers with her four brothers and is very close to her brother, Kurt, five years older than her. She attends Ivy League college, does not want to go back and joins Glamour Hotel and Casino Las Vegas as an accountant. At her father’s funeral, her mother tells her to leave, accusing her of being responsible for his death. Two years later, she receives a phone call from her brother who tells her that their ranch is in a financial crunch. Cleo asks her boss to make her a casino hostess because they make more money than an accountant and she needs the money to save the ranch. Her boss gives her one chance- a big client, her whale, is coming for a few weeks.
The client is Jax Monroe, who has checked into the hotel using the alias of Joe Smith. Kurt’s best friend, five years her senior, her teenage crush and Hope Spring’s rebel, Jax, had left Hope Springs years ago. He had a troubled childhood and was the guy her family did not approve of- at least for her though she never believed he was a bad boy. He has changed and she definitely approves of this change. She is surprised that Jax and Kurt have kept in touch with each other over the years.
Jax has been unwell and is involved in a court case and is on a vacation- his first vacation. After learning that Cleo’s job is on the line, Jax reluctantly agrees to her being the hostess. He keeps her away from the case till one day someone comes looking for him, and she gets injured. Afraid that this might happen again, he takes her to an unknown place to protect her. They both have secrets from their past.
Jennifer Faye has done it again. Written an unputdownable romance with relatable characters. There is suspense, a court case and even villains. I loved the way the characters connected at the emotional level. The language and flow are good.
